£18.4k raised for London homeless shelters by Lee & Thompson

5th April 2018

As we turn to a new financial year, Lee & Thompson’s preceding charity of the year Robes Project will receive the final pennies raised by our staff which currently totals over £18,400.

Robes Project is a grassroots charity providing lifesaving shelter, advice and warmth over the cold winter months to the homeless in South London.  Alongside, the charity works with its shelter guests to access permanent accommodation and long-term support on an individual level.

During the year that Robes marked its tenth anniversary, the team at Lee & Thompson committed to a 10:10:10 Challenge where we would celebrate ten years of the charity by planning ten activities that would raise £10,000.

Given that £1,000 keeps one shelter running for a week, we are delighted that we surpassed this target and our fundraising tangibly improves people’s lives.

Looking back over the activities, many of our lovely staff were sponsored by friends, family and colleagues to tackle feats including the 14-mile Six Peaks Challenge in the Lake District and two exhausting segments of the London Capital Ring Walk.  Then in the depths of winter, we took on the Robes SleepOut outside Southwark Cathedral – for which some of our clients were generous enough to donate auction prize tickets at some impressive TV, film and music events, as well as donate their time in performing at the overnight SleepOut.

Other fundraising initiatives were a film-themed quiz night, a Christmas gift wrapping pop-up and carol singing at London Bridge Station.  Our weakness for homemade food also encouraged staff to donate to a bring-a-dish buffet lunch and, most recently, our very own Easter fayre and cupcake contest.

We made a splash about Robes Project to our social media following and laid out lots of Robes Project’s literature for the lovely people visiting our main reception to browse over the last year.  The Robes collection bucket placed in our reception also brought in plenty of spare change.

Our energy didn’t stop there; over the winter our generous staff dug out piles of new and unused warm clothing, footwear and toiletries which were sent to guests of Robes Project’s 28 homeless night shelter venues across south London.

Chair of the Robes Project, George Martin, commented:

“We would like to thank your company most warmly for being our Charity Partner of the Year for 2017/18. We were very sad that this came to an end on 31st March. You have been such a fantastic dynamic Charity Partner for Robes and you have contributed so much financially and through the goodwill of your staff. We cannot thank you enough.”

Managing Partner of Lee & Thompson, Reno Antoniades, commented:

“Homelessness is an escalating problem, especially in our community in London. It’s so impressive to see such a small charity having such a big effect.  Our staff came up with exciting and bespoke ways to raise funds and educate others about this charity’s vital work.”

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this incredible cause.
