Live Events
Our Live Events Group boasts some of the industry’s leading lawyers and Lee & Thompson remains one of the market leaders in the field.
We have unrivaled expertise in advising on the full spectrum of legal and commercial issues which surround the structure, staging and promotion of all types of live events from live music and theatrical productions to conferences and exhibitions.
In live music, we have advised on the contractual arrangements for major world tours by bands such as Queen, Roxy Music and the Spice Girls, as well as on large scale “one-offs” such as the fund raising concerts for Nelson Mandela’s 46664 charity in Cape Town, London and New York. We have also advised on Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance tour.
In addition we advise on the buying or selling of events including complex earn out structures, event management and license agreements, joint venture arrangements, cloning and international roll outs, venue hire and co-location, trademarks and data protection, sponsorship, merchandising and brand licensing, performer agreements and TV format deals.
Examples of work our lawyers have advised on outside the live music arena include:
- The buying and selling of events such as Counter Terror Expo, World Future Energy Summit, Learning Technologies, RSVP, Restaurant Show, Move It!, the Surfaces Show, Adventure Travel Show and the Spa Show.
- The acquisition of the rights to run the British International Motor Show, London Fashion Week and Weekend and all legal issues and contractual arrangements in relation to running the same.
- Licence arrangements with Channel 5 on behalf of Upper Street Events to run “Gadget show live” and licence arrangements with Brand Events on behalf of Single Market Events Pty to run “Top Gear live” in Australia.
- All commercial arrangements relating to the running of the Guinness Premiership competition.
- Advising International Event Logistics Association Limited on its constitutional arrangements.
