Oli Shipton
Oli trained at a leading city firm, which included a 6 month secondment to British Airways plc. He then spent two years in the corporate department of a global top 20 US firm before joining Lee and Thompson where he specialises in advising on corporate and general commercial deals in the fields of media and entertainment including those in music, film & TV, advertising and marketing, publishing, sport and live events.
Oli has acted for a wide range of media companies, multi-national corporations, live event organisers, sports management companies, musicians, screen writers, film producers, models and high net worth individuals on structuring start ups, acquisitions, disposals, international joint venture arrangements, private equity investments, complex earn-out structures and general commercial contracts.
In the sports sector, he has advised sponsors, rights holders, clubs, players and agents.
Oli’s previous experience as a musician and in music management provides him with a valuable knowledge of creative industries and the commercial issues facing our clients.
Examples of recent deals that Oli has acted on include advising:
- Descartes Publishing on the sale of the magazine known as “Athletics Weekly”;
- EMCG on its 50:50 joint venture with M&C Saatchi in Russia;
- Freeway CAM B.V. on the purchase of National Film Trustee Company from the UK Film Council;
- Boss Media AB, a Swedish developer of software and systems for digitally-distributed gaming entertainment systems on its acquisition of Dynamite Design, a UK supplier of online interactive betting games;
- Footwork Productions Ltd on the commercial activity of David Beckham;
- 1966 Entertainment Ltd on its management of the commercial interests of the England Football Team;
- Premiership Rugby (the body which administers the rugby union Aviva Premiership) on its sponsorship portfolio including its title rights agreement with Aviva;
- Scream Art Gallery on its commercial agreements; and
- the band JLS on its corporate re-structuring and charitable foundation.
