Head of Dispute Resolution

Andrew is a partner at Lee & Thompson and head of the firm’s Dispute Resolution Group.

Prior to joining Lee & Thompson in 2016, Andrew spent 14 years as the managing partner of Forbes Anderson Free, a highly respected boutique practice specialising in litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution for clients in the media and entertainment industries.

The prominent legal directory, Chambers and Partners, recognises Andrew as a leading practitioner in the field of intellectual property. He has been singled out as a ‘Star Individual’ in contentious music matters and described as ‘an unparalleled force in the music industry’ as well as a ‘spectacularly successful litigator’ and a ‘very skilled strategist’.

Andrew has developed a substantial client following that includes high profile artists, composers and rights holders as well as music industry bodies. In recent years he has been shown to be a prominent force in the music industry’s attempts to combat online piracy of digitally recorded music, shaping the approach to blocking injunction applications on behalf of British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and its members.

In other recent cases of note, Andrew acted for Sony/ATV Music Publishing in preventing the cinematic release of a film featuring the unauthorised reproduction of substantial excerpts of recordings of the professional performances of ‘The Beatles’. Andrew continues to advise Sony/ATV Music Publishing and a number of other major music publishing companies on a broad range of matters.

Alongside his contentious music practice, Andrew has advised a number of high profile sporting personalities including the former world champion boxers Lennox Lewis and Joe Calzaghe.
