Simon Goodbody

Senior Associate

Simon is a Senior Associate in the firm’s Dispute Resolution Group.
Prior to joining Lee & Thompson in 2016, Simon spent seven years at Forbes Anderson Free, a highly respected boutique practice specialising in litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution for clients in the media and entertainment industries.

Simon has developed a specialised knowledge of music industry disputes. He acts for a number of successful artists, record labels, publishing companies, collecting societies and industry bodies. Most recently Simon has acted for British Phonographic Industry (BPI) in seeking blocking injunctions to prevent access to various peer-to-peer file sharing websites; advised two major record labels in a dispute with a multinational company arising out of the launch of a new online digital media distribution platform; acted for a successful rock band in a long running dispute with a leaving member.

In addition to music industry disputes, Simon advises clients in other media sectors on a broad range of contentious contractual and intellectual property matters. Cases of particular note include advising a client in relation to a shareholder dispute between founding members of a film production company and acting for the Defendants in FAPL v QC Leisure, a case that was referred to the European Court of Justice and concerned the use of foreign satellite decoder cards in the UK to show English Premier League football matches.
