Shay Kennedy

Associate, Commercial

An associate in Lee & Thompson’s Commercial department, advising clients across the creative industries on a broad range of commercial, intellectual property and brand-related matters, Shay is known for his practical, creative approach and ability to navigate complex commercial arrangements with clarity and precision.

Shay acts for producers, creative talent, global brands and agencies on advertising, theatre and live entertainment projects His practice includes advertising, marketing, brand partnerships, talent and influencer deals, theatre, live events, technology and data protection.

He plays an active role in the firm’s Advertising & Marketing group, working with advertising, marketing and creative agencies, events companies and start-ups across a range of industries. Shay’s experience includes advising some of the world’s most recognisable brands and leading design agencies on major campaigns, collaborations and sponsorships.

Shay is also a key member of the firm’s Theatre & Immersive practice, acting for producers in the UK and the US as well as creative talent including performers, composers and writers. He also has extensive experience advising on live and experiential projects, supporting clients on the commercial and creative aspects of large-scale events.

Shay trained and qualified at Lee & Thompson, having originally joined the firm in the Film, TV & Games department. He holds a first-class law degree from the University of Leeds and an LLM LPC from BPP University Law School. Deeply committed to improving social mobility in both the legal and creative industries, he mentors aspiring lawyers through outreach initiatives including the Law Society’s Diversity Access Scheme.

Shay is passionate about theatre, live performance and music. He has previously worked on creative projects with BBC Radio 4 and the National Youth Theatre.
