Inclusion and Belonging
Central to the firm’s culture and ethos is our commitment to ensuring a diverse and inclusive workplace, preventing discrimination and creating an environment where everyone – staff, clients and everyone we work with – can be themselves and can bring their whole selves to work.
Of course, we have all the right policies and procedures in place – but this is about far more than policies. We are committed to continued introspection and review, always seeking to improve and educate ourselves.
Our Inclusion & Belong Network focuses on 7 key strands of diversity with Strand Champions appointed for each:
- Family & Carers – supporting the team with family, parenting and caring responsibilities.
- Women’s Network – supporting our women with their career progression. This year we are proud to have signed up to the Law Society’s Women in Law pledge, and we are busy working on our policies and support to ensure that we meet our targets.
- LGBTQ+ – celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and our allies.
- Wellbeing & Mental Health – training, support and activity to improve staff wellbeing – we have trained Mental Health First Aiders at all levels and in all roles across the firm, and we have also provided training at line-manager level by qualified mental health therapists.
- The Race Network – educating and improving ourselves on race related matters.
- Recruitment/Access – ensuring we recruit, retain and progress diverse talent.
- Disability and Neurodiversity – educating and raising awareness relating to disabilities and neurodiverse conditions.
We have a dedicated area on our intranet for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) resources, including for LGBTQ History Month, Black History Month, International Women’s Day and mental health and wellbeing. We operate a Diversity & Wellbeing Book Exchange in our office, to share the books we collectively own which explore or recognise diverse heritage, cultures, issues and achievements or wellbeing themes.
We also host regular Inclusion & Belonging events, including evening film nights, roundtables, fireside chats and lunchtime panel sessions which guest speakers to mark events in the inclusion calendar, as well as our annual Pride Party on our rooftop.
Working with a dedicated Recruitment Committee we continually assess, review and improve the firm’s recruitment activities, ensuring that access to opportunity at L&T is open and fair. Take a look at our latest diversity statistics.
