9th October 2026

Lee & Thompson returns to the UK Global Screen Fund's International Co-Production Workshop.

On 24 September, Film & TV Partner Alastair Mavor ran a session at BFI’s UK Global Screen Fund co-production workshop in Newcastle. Attendees included independent producers from the live action, animation and documentary sectors.

Alastair’s session, The Co-Production Agreement: What Matters, Why, and War Stories, looked at why producers choose to co-produce and the different routes to co-production. He also covered structuring, tax credits, and the key terms to get right in a co-production agreement, as well as practical tips for dealing with common legal and commercial issues on co-productions. The session ended with questions from the room.

The Global Screen Fund was set up to boost international development, production, distribution and promotional opportunities for the UK’s independent screen sector. It offers a range of awards for UK producers, including a co-production strand that contributes up to £300,000 per project to UK producers working on international co-productions.

Alastair regularly advises producer clients on film and television co-productions and this is the fourth year he has delivered the workshop, coming after Glasgow in 2023, Cardiff in 2024 and Belfast in 2025.
