Members of our Film team were invited to London Film School earlier this month to present to students on the Legals and Business Affairs module of LFS’ MA in Film Production course.

The module kicked off with partner Christos Michaels and associate Liv Graham introducing the concept of rights and their acquisition, looking at Copyright and Moral Rights and key clauses to consider in rights agreements generally (including differences between UK and rest of world positions).  On Tuesday, partner Antony Swiatek looked at Life Rights and related clearance issues, with associates Michael Maquieira and Cristina Comsa then doing a deeper dive into the specifics of Option and Writer agreements. Finally, partner Alastair Mavor considered the issues to be borne in mind when dealing with agents in Film and TV with senior associate Janey Hurran providing an overview of TV agreements and, just to round off a week of getting to the nitty gritty legalities of all things rights related, senior associate Chloe Hutchings led a session of practical group exercises with the students to check they had actually been paying attention (they had)!

The students were a super bunch – engaged, engaging and we wish them all the best.
