Lee & Thompson Votes in New Charity of the Year for 2022/23

13th July 2022

Following a firm-wide vote, we are proud to announce that we have selected the Disaster Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal as Lee & Thompson’s Charity of the Year for 2022/23.

For the past 18 months, the firm has been fundraising for and raising awareness of The James Walker Legacy Award, a charity that we set up in 2020 in memory of our treasured friend and colleague, James Walker, together with his family, friends and the National Film & Television School (NFTS). The Award provides financial and mentoring support to graduates of the NFTS writing and producing courses in the critical first year post-graduation.

Since the Award was established in September 2020, it has raised nearly £70,000 with nearly £15,000 raised by Lee & Thompson staff, through a series of fundraising events and challenges.  We are proud that, to date, the Award has supported 16 screenwriters and four producers in their post-graduation journey.  To find out more about our support for JWLA as our Charity of the Year see our short video below:

As of April 2022, Lee & Thompson has been fundraising for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, which is working with partners to provide humanitarian relief to those fleeing the conflict in Ukraine. Nearly 10 million people are now internally displaced with more than 6 million now refugees.  Our support will help to provide emergency aid, shelter, food, water, hygiene and medical supplies and support to families and vulnerable people in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.

Reno Antoniades, Managing Partner commented:

“The war in Ukraine and the suffering of the Ukrainian people is in the hearts and minds of all of us.  The past few months have seen the most appalling horrors and devastation. We are happy to be playing just a small part in supporting those who need it most, at this difficult time whilst hoping that the war will be over quickly and without further suffering.”
