Funding grassroots music education on our doorstep

From hiking to wreath-making, from cooking to gift-wrapping, from raffles to rounders, Lee & Thompson’s staff fundraising efforts have totalled £8,789 over the past year for our charity of the year 2019-20, The Midi Music Charity.

MMC is a music education and talent development charity which provides a creative music hub for disadvantaged children, young people and adults and offers innovative music projects, short courses and a bespoke artist development programme to support emerging artists/young industry professionals.  The charity, based in Deptford, aims to provide hundreds of young people with a welcoming hub of facilities for the community which fills the gap between music education and the music business. Its alliance with Lewisham’s Violence Reduction Unit offers young people alternative, positive and engaging ways of expressing themselves.

Our greatest fundraising challenge for MMC was the Brecon Beacons hike in late 2019; some of the highlights of the hike can be read here. Despite our final sporting challenge London Landmarks Half Marathon being cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, our pair of runners have still raised some sponsorship for the charity.

We would like to thank all staff who took part in all volunteering and fundraising initiatives throughout the past year.

Charity celebrates milestone anniversary

It seems a long time ago now, but a great night was had by all at MMC’s 25th Anniversary Celebration at London’s legendary 100 Club on 20th February – a huge milestone for our then charity of the year. See for yourself by watching this short video, featuring the charity’s new patron Skin from Skunk Anansie!

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the celebration event or made a donation, and if you’re still thinking of donating, it’s not too late and you can do so through Lee & Thompson’s online fundraising page for MMC.

MMC also released a 97-minute anniversary Spotify playlist filled with 25 tracks from some of the most talented artists the charity has helped to nurture over its 25-year history, including current high flyers Kate Tempest and Yussef Dayes.
