Antony Swiatek delivers legal workshop at Glasgow Film Festival 2024’s “Industry Focus”

7th March 2024

Film & TV partner Antony Swiatek led an interactive legal workshop as part of Glasgow Film Festival’s “Industry Focus” strand – a programme running simultaneously alongside the festival – which is designed to enable industry experts to nurture the filmmakers of tomorrow.

In his workshop, entitled “The Small Print”, Antony highlighted the essential elements of legal contracts, top tips for approaching commercial negotiations, the ins and outs of shopping, optioning and other rights agreements and jargon busting, in turn offering emerging film creatives and producing talents an overview of legal fundamentals in the film business.

The workshop was followed by a Q&A and a discussion on the current state of the UK independent film sector, including the growth of co-production opportunities for producers and other creative talent based in Scotland.

Antony commented “I really enjoyed the opportunity to speak to and engage with some of the emerging individuals that are adding to the wealth of producing and filmmaking talent already based in and operating successfully from Scotland, and Glasgow in particular. It’s a great film festival to experience, with a real energy about it and I will certainly be back again next year. In the meantime, I look forward to building on our established client network of Scottish-based producers and filmmakers, particularly in light of yesterday’s budget announcement of a substantially increased UK tax credit allowance for independent films below £15m, which has the potential to drive indie film production activity in Scotland and throughout the UK, as well as through international co-productions.
